Learn like a linguist

Linguistics is the scientific study of language. If we understand basic Linguistics principles and clarify our (often unscientific) misunderstandings about language, we can learn English and other foreign languages much more systematically and effectively.

The grammatical characteristics of english

Just like every other language in the world, English is bound by its own “grammar”—that is, its unique set of systematic rules. An understanding of basic Linguistics concepts allows us to learn the specific grammatical characteristics of English from a much more informed perspective and with much more awareness.

Cantonese and English: a grammatical comparison

Cantonese and English are two historically unrelated languages bound by their respective “grammars.” Informed by basic Linguistics concepts, we can learn to analyze the the grammar of our native language Cantonese and see the grammatical differences between it and our target language English in a more scientific light. This allows us to step back and understand English grammar in a more comprehensive way.
